David’s campaigns stretch from the Philistine coast to the Euphrates in seventeen verses - Philistines, Moabites, Arameans, Edomites - and every victory closes on the same refrain: “The LORD gave victory to David wherever he went.”

After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them And he took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines

He defeated Moab, and the Moabites became servants to David And brought tribute David defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah Unto Hamath as he went to establish his dominion

David took from him a thousand chariots and seven thousand horsemen And twenty thousand footmen, and David hamstrung all the chariot horses Except that he reserved some of them for a hundred chariots And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer David defeated twenty-two thousand of the Syrians

Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus And the Syrians became servants to David And brought tribute The Lord gave victory to David wherever he went

David took the shields of gold that were on the servants Of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem Also from Tibhath and Kun, cities of Hadadezer David brought very much bronze With which Solomon made the bronze sea and the pillars

When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated All the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah He sent Hadoram his son to King David To salute him and to bless him Because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him

For Hadadezer had wars with Tou And with him all kinds of vessels of gold and silver and bronze These also did King David dedicate unto the Lord With the silver and the gold that he had carried away

From all the nations which he subdued, from Edom And from Moab, and from the children of Ammon And from the Philistines, and from Amalek And the name of David went out into all lands

And the Lord gave David victory wherever he went His kingdom expanded, his enemies fell The tribute came in from every nation The Lord was with him

David the victor The kingdoms subdued The tribute brought home The covenant expanding
