Amos was a shepherd from Tekoa and a dresser of sycamore fruit whom God called to prophesy against Israel during a time of prosperity and complacency. Though he was not a professional prophet, God took him and sent him to declare judgment on injustice and false worship. His book warns that social oppression and ritual without righteousness provoke God's judgment.
