Gaal was a man who came to Shechem with his brothers and turned the city's men against Abimelech, briefly rallying them to reject his rule. He was driven out of the city by Zebul and Abimelech, and his rebellion failed quickly. His story shows the instability of Abimelech's violent reign over Israel.
