The inner chamber of the tabernacle and later the temple, separated by a veil and entered only by the high priest once a year on the Day of Atonement. Inside stood the Ark of the Covenant, where God's presence dwelled between the golden cherubim. When Jesus died, the veil tore in two from top to bottom, opening access to God's presence for all.
